  2. Vocalist Ronnie James Dio considered this release his favourite Rainbow album. Despite the title implying the record being a Ritchie Blackmore solo release, in later years Blackmore has jokingly stated that Dio's contributions warranted a re-titling of "Ritchie Blackmore and Ronnie James Dio's Rainbow".Genre: Heavy metal.

  8. The LP is a nice, thick slab of vinyl. Nice upgrade. Richie Blackmore's Rainbow album is a classic Blackmore / Dio album. I would say for my ear, the best Rainbow album. the many future line-up changes of the band: `Man On The Silver Mountain (what a riff, expanded with solos on stage)', Catch the Rainbow (brilliant vocals, detail is /5(49).

Feb 20,  · Perhaps the first example of "dragon rock" -- a style perfected by bands like Iron Maiden and Dio in the early to mid-'80s -- was Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, a rather pretentious collection from the guitarist's first post-Deep Purple project. Fittingly enough, a young Ronnie James Dio provides the goblin-like frontman presence required by the increasingly Baroque Blackmore.
